What Your Beauty Routine is Missing…

Looking good can help you to feel good. Right now we could all do with a little bit more of that. So here are somethings that you might be missing from your beauty routine that could help you to keep on looking your best for all those Zoom calls. So, here are our top five additions that will work in anyone’s beauty routine, plus one extra for emergencies!

Water

Our body is mostly water. Yet somehow we manage to forget how important it is to stay hydrated. We are continually losing small amounts of water form our bodies, so we must keep topping up. If your body starts to run low on water, it starts to take it from our skin and our hair first. In other words, the first place that is going to show signs of dehydration is your skin. If you always under hydrate, your hair is going to be the next casualty.

Having proper levels of water in your body will keep your skin hydrated, which means all the cells will be plump and full of water. This will make your skin look and feel great. It will also slow the appearance of wrinkles.

If you are regularly short of water, your hair will begin to suffer. Your roots become weaker and shorter. This means more breakages and thinner hair. Your body produces less keratin when it’s dehydrated, which not only affects your hair but your nails as well.

So to keep looking your best, make sure that you are regularly topping up your hydration levels by sipping water throughout the day.

Exercise

There are tons of beauty benefits to regular exercise. The most significant way that getting moving helps is that it gets your blood flowing. This means that every cell in your body is getting a good supply of everything it needs. The end result is skin that glows, reduced wrinkles, and clean pores.

The other benefit of doing a small amount of resistance training is that it keeps everything toned up. You don’t have to go mad and turn into the hulk. Just a little muscle work can boost your metabolism and add some definition to your figure.

Relaxation

Stress is bad news. It makes you feel rotten. It also affects your appearance. If you have high levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) for long periods, it increases the inflammation in your body. This can lead to acne, dry and red skin, weight change and even digestive issues. None of which are going to help you feel or look your best. So make sure that you are regularly scheduling time to relax.

Fuel

The saying might be that ‘beauty is only skin deep’, but real beauty comes from within. While it is true that your sparkling personality and charming wit make you beautiful, so does what you eat.

Getting the right fuel into your body gives it all the tools it needs to help you look and feel your best. This means eating right most of the time. You don’t have to be perfect; we all need to have an indulgence every now and then. The best thing to work towards is a healthy balanced diet. So no fad diets, no yoyo dieting, just looking after yourself.

A balanced diet is one that has good portions of fruit and veg. This gives you the vitamins and minerals you need for a healthy body inside and out. Healthy fats, like Omega 3, should be part of your diet. They can help to keep your skin in tip-top condition and can even fight the effects of acne. Foods high in zinc, like leafy greens, are great for controlling oily skin. Selenium found in nuts, seafood and broccoli is excellent for fighting the signs of premature ageing.

Sleep

Looking tired does no one any favours. Give your body a chance to heal and recover from the day by getting a good 7 -9 hours of sleep. It’s while you’re sleeping that your body does the housekeeping. It produces collagen to firm and plump up your skin. It’s the time when your immune system gets to work, and it’s when your body gets rid of the toxins that build up during the day. Unless you like the racoon look, it really is a good idea to get a good night’s sleep.

Alcohol!

As promised, one emergency beauty solution. Studies have shown that people are objectively more attractive after drinking one glass of wine, or equivalent alcoholic beverage of your choice. Be warned the effect deteriorates as soon as you drink more, so this is not an excuse to start drinking to excess!
