Ingredient Round-up: Energy, Stamina, Recovery, and Healing

We often talk about the benefits of each product and the way they support physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing in different ways. But what happens when we strip away the packaging and focus solely on the ingredients in some of our leading products?

In this blog post, we consider four of the main performance indicators associated primarily with physical activity, before uncovering the key ingredients which support each of these four areas.

Energy

When it comes to physical performance, energy is what motivates and sustains you. A consistent store and release of energy is integral to high level success and performance. The key ingredients associated with energy are:

MCT Oil: This concentrated oil is packed full of easy to digest Medium-Chain Triglycerides, which are used directly by the body as a source of energy. MCT oil is most commonly recognised as a source of fat, derived from coconut or palm kernel oil, and is found as a straight oil or as part of capsule vitamins.

Blackseed Oil: A traditional remedy, with a pleasant aroma and taste, Black Seed Oil has been traditionally used as a food and in general health & wellbeing to support the immune system and to maintain skin, hair, nail & heart health

Iron: One of the most essential vitamins recommended for energy, anything with iron in it will fuel enzymes and make energy - enabling the blood to hold onto oxygen and transport it around your body effectively.

B12: B12 is one of the 8 vitamins which is responsible for converting food into glucose; a direct source of energy for the body. As such, any product which contains B12 will support energy levels

Stamina

Stamina is all about your ability to sustain physical performance, and so the key ingredients for supporting stamina tend to focus on cardiovascular and heart health as well as physical ability.

Omega Oil: This ingredient is commonly linked to heart health, and when it comes to building stamina, this is crucial for fuelling the body’s demand for oxygen. Omega Oil has also been linked to helping sustain a high level performance under pressure and when in a competitive state.

Creatine: Creatine is linked to a number of athletic benefits, including increased muscle strength, enhanced recovery, and improved performance - all of which contribute to stamina and the ability to push the body to new limits. Creatine is a high energy ingredient which enhances overall gains, making it a crucial ingredient for any product which deals with stamina and performance.

Recovery

To deliver the best physical performance possible, our bodies need plenty of time to recover - and that doesn’t just mean recovering from injury. It also means giving the muscles chance to relax, refuelling the body tissue with oxygen, and giving our joints time to rest. Here are the two top ingredients to support recovery:

Magnesium: Magnesium is responsible for reducing fatigue, but it also helps you to sleep well, and gives the muscles chance to relax fully after physical activity. This is what allows you to come back stronger on your next session with improved muscle function and a rebalance of electrolytes which become lost through activity.

CO Q10: CO Q10 is short for Coenzyme Q10 - an ingredient which has become noted as a powerful vitamin for endurance athletes.

Healing

Healing deals with the process of injury, and what it takes for the body to restore itself back to physical fitness. From wounds to torn tissue and inflammation, ingredients which deal with healing aren’t just part of an athlete’s store cupboard but should be heralded by everyone.

Turmeric: The active ingredients in turmeric include beneficial flavonoids called curcuminoids, which are plant-based antioxidants that help fight cell damaging free radicals in the body.

L-Glutamine:

L-Glutamine is the most common amino acid in your body.Amino acids form the proteins that help build muscles. But during intense exercise, your glutamine levels fall, your stamina reduces and recovery time takes longer. Your body’s craving for glutamine is far greater than supply because it can’t generate enough. Many people take it as part of their sports nutrition programme or to help with their gut function, improve concentration, cope better with stress or to simply support their immune system.
